Accessibility: keyboard, screen readers, motion and text size

There's no separate accessibility settings page; MicroEnglish works with the settings you already have on your phone or computer. Every part of a lesson works from the keyboard, the player controls carry spoken labels, browser zoom to 200% reflows the page instead of cutting it off, animation follows your system's reduce-motion setting, and the words of every clip can be read as text. Here's the honest inventory, including what isn't there yet.

Work through a lesson with the keyboard

• Every page starts with a Skip to content link: Tab once, press Enter, and you're past the header.
• The Learn, Practice and Test tabs are one Tab stop; the left and right arrow keys move between them.
• In the player, Tab to Play and press Space to play or pause. The progress bar is a slider: with it focused, the arrow keys move through the clip. Replay and the 0.75×, 1× and 1.25× speed buttons are ordinary buttons.
• In the answer, Space or Enter moves to the next word space. With Whole sentence chosen, Enter checks your answer.
• Every control shows a visible focus outline, including on the dark practice area.

Use a screen reader

• The Play button is named "Play", and "Pause" while the clip plays; the slider reads the time position; the icon-only replay button is named "Replay audio from the start".
• After Check my answer, the result is announced without moving your focus, for example "You caught 5 of 7 words. Listen again for the marked ones."
• The whole site is in English and is marked as English for your reader's pronunciation.

Read instead of listening

The transcript is the caption for every clip. In a lesson, Reveal transcript shows the line before you check (that sentence then counts as zero) and Read the transcript opens it after you check; in the Test tab it opens once you've checked. The listening lab and Offline practice have Show script. The Learn tab is entirely text, and in Speaking Beta the Listen and repeat step keeps the sentence on screen.

Bigger text, less motion, more contrast

• Text size follows your browser's zoom and your system's text-size setting. At 200% the page reflows into one column with no sideways scrolling.
• With reduce motion switched on in your system settings, the transitions and the checking animations are turned off.
• In Windows High Contrast (forced colours), buttons keep a border, and in the Learn tab's Check yourself questions a right or wrong answer is shown by a double or dashed border, so that part doesn't depend on colour alone.

What doesn't exist yet

• No font choice: the site uses Inter, with no dyslexia-friendly alternative built in.
• No text-size control inside the site; use your browser's zoom.
• No dark theme.
• Nothing slower than 0.75× playback.
• The word-by-word feedback marks words mainly by colour and underline. A screen reader hears the words, and a blank is named "Missing word", but a wrong word isn't announced as wrong; the result line and the transcript fill that gap.
• Speaking Beta needs a microphone; there's no typed alternative for that part.
