Saving phrases from a lesson

Scroll to the bottom of any lesson and open Save to my phrases. Add a note if you like, give it a collection name such as Work or Travel, and choose Save to my phrases. The lesson's phrase, its meaning and its example are now in My phrases under Account → Practice, and it's due in your review queue straight away. You need to be signed in; as a guest you'll see Sign in to save phrases and report a problem in its place.

Save a phrase

1. Finish (or just read) the lesson and scroll to Save to my phrases at the bottom of the page. The same tool sits on each row of the Mistake notebook, on the cards under Find your next lesson, and under the free listening samples.
2. Collection is optional and up to 60 characters. Use the same name each time and the phrases group together.
3. My note is optional and up to 500 characters. An example from your own life ("say this to the landlord about the boiler") sticks better than a translation.
4. Choose Save to my phrases. You'll see Phrase saved. You can review it from My phrases with a link to the page.

What's saved is the lesson's key phrase, not a single clip, so one lesson is one entry.

Edit a note or move it to another collection

Open Save to my phrases again, on the lesson or on the phrase's row in My phrases. The tool now reads Saved to your phrases. Open to edit your note or collection, your text is already in the fields, and the button says Save changes. Changing the collection doesn't reset the review schedule.

Remove a phrase

On My phrases, each row has Remove phrase. It's immediate, with no confirmation step, and it takes the phrase out of the review queue as well. Saving the lesson again later starts it fresh.

Find things on the My phrases page

• Search lessons matches the phrase and its meaning.
• Collection lists every name you've used; pick one and choose Find lessons to see just that group. All collections shows everything.
• Each row shows the collection, the phrase, the meaning, the example, your note and Next review (either Due now or a date and time in UTC).
• Open lesson takes you back to the lesson; Listen and compare opens the free sample with its accents side by side, when the lesson has one.

Where saved phrases go next

Every saved phrase feeds the review queue, which shows it on a spaced schedule and asks you to rate how well you remembered it. They're also in the JSON file you can download from Settings → Your learning data, notes and collections included; see Downloading your data.

If the tool says a note is too long, shorten it to 500 characters and save again; your text stays in the box. If Save to my phrases isn't there at all, sign in first, or tell us which lesson and we'll check it within one working day.
