Replaying a sentence

Choose Replay (the button with the two curved arrows, under the Play button) and the clip starts again from the beginning. Replays are unlimited, and they don't lower your score, so listen twice before you type and again after you check.

The controls in the player

• Play / Pause starts and stops the clip in place.
• The progress bar shows where you are, with the time next to it; tap or drag it to move through the clip.
• Accent for this clip swaps the recording, when the clip has more than one. It doesn't restart your attempt.
• Replay takes you back to the start. On longer passages you'll see 3 s back and forward buttons instead, so you can repeat one phrase without starting over.
• 0.75×, 1×, 1.25× set the speed. The slower setting keeps the voice natural; it just gives you more time between words.
• Some passages add Play sentence and Next sentence, so you can work through a long clip one line at a time.

Use the keyboard

Tab to the Play button and press Space to play or pause. The progress bar is a slider: with it focused, the arrow keys move through the clip. Every control has a spoken label for screen readers.

A rhythm that works

Play the clip once without typing. Replay it and type what you catch. Choose Check my answer, then replay once more while you read the feedback. Most people hear the missed word on that third listen, and the sentence sticks better than reading the transcript straight away.

Phrase clips inside a lesson

Some lessons include a short clip of just the key phrase, with its own Play button. It works the same way: replay it as often as you like, and it has no effect on your score.
