Said or Told: Choose the Right Verb

Said and told are past forms used to report speech. When reporting a message with told, name the listener directly after it. With said, you can give the message without naming a listener, or add to before the listener. Some expressions, such as told the truth and told a story, do not need a listener.
The doctor told my sister that the clinic opened at eight.
